Dr. Christopher Smiley
PRESIDENT
Dr. Christopher J. Smiley is the immediate past Editor of the Journal of the Michigan Dental Association and serves on its Editorial Advisory board, archiving past issues on ADACommons. The publication was honored in 2021 with the ICD Golden Pen Journalism Award – honorable mention for a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion series. In 2020, Dr. Smiley received the ADA/AADR Evidence-Based Dentistry Practice Award. He is a past chairman of the Dental Quality Alliance and the ADA Council on Dental Benefit Programs and was the lead author of the 2015 ADA systematic review titled “Evidence-based Clinical Practice Guideline on the Nonsurgical Treatment of Chronic Periodontitis by Means of Scaling and Root Planing With or Without Adjuncts” (JADA. 2015;146[7]:525-535). In 2022, he authored a monograph published by JADA+: The Future of Dental Practice Management: Insights Beyond Human Cognition (Why AI?) https://436395.hs-sites.com/jadaplusai/ai-test-post-1-0-0 He was also an ADA Scientific Research Institute ESTR External Review Committee member. He is a past moderator of the ADA EBD Champions Conference and has lectured on Artificial Intelligence in Dentistry, Patient-Centered Care, Evidence-Based Care, Quality Improvement in Health Care, and Coding and dental benefit issues. Chris and his wife, Dr. Colette Smiley, reside in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He retired from general dental practice in September 2023.

Dr. Hugh Wunderlich
IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT
Dr. Hugh Wunderlich, DDS, CDE, recently retired from 40 years of general practice in Palm Harbor, Florida. Currently he is the editor of the Florida Dental Association. Dr. Wunderlich has also served as editor of the West Coast District Dental Association and the Florida Section of the International College of Dentists for 30 years. He is a fellow in PFA, ACD, ICD, and was awarded the Gies and the ADA’s Distinguished Editor award. He is an Oxford graduate… OK…his undergraduate degree was from Miami University in Oxford, Ohio. He enjoys sailing was his wife multiple times a year.

Dr. Jasmine Shafagh
PRESIDENT ELECT
After practicing general dentistry for 8 years, Dr. Shafagh decided to specialize and is currently a dental resident in Orthodontics and Dentofacial Orthopedics at Georgia School of Orthodontics (GSO). She was born and raised in the suburbs of Philadelphia and received her Bachelors of Arts in Biology from Bryn Mawr College, her Master’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey (UMDNJ, Now Rutgers University) and earned her Doctor of Dental Medicine from Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (LECOM) School of Dental Medicine in Florida.
Dr. Shafagh currently serves as the Associate Editor for the Pennsylvania Dental Journal (PDJ), President-Elect of the American Association of Dental Editors and Journalists (AADEJ), and is slated to receive her Certified Dental Editor (CDE) recognition in 2025. She served as the Editor of The Bulletin, the newsletter of her local (The Dental Society of Chester County and Delaware County) for 6 years and was also an Associate Editor of The Bulletin Newsletter for the Valley Forge Dental Association, 2nd District of the Pennsylvania Dental Association (PDA) during that time. Additionally, she currently serves as a governor for her local and is a member of PDA’s Communications and Public Relations Advisory Committee and the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee (DEIC).
In 2023, Dr. Shafagh received the International College of Dentists (ICD) Journalism Award (Newsletter Honorable Mention Award) for The Bulletin, and she was also inducted as a fellow of the ICD. This same year, she also received the Recognition Award from her local for her many years of service as their newsletter Editor, and she was also a recipient of PDA’s Inaugural 10-under-10 Awards. In her free time, she enjoys traveling and spending time with her husband, Dr. Ashkan Ghaneie, and two young children.

Ed Fienberg
VICE PRESIDENT
Dr. Edward Feinberg is a graduate of Tufts University and practiced Dentistry in Scarsdale, NY for more than 40 years. He currently practices Dentistry in Arizona. Dr. Feinberg was trained by a master and pioneer in full coverage restorative dentistry, Dr. Elliot Feinberg. The techniques used by the Drs. Edward Feinberg have been documented with more than 100,000 pictures taken during the past 70 years. Dr. Feinberg is currently Director of ONWARD, an online teaching organization for full coverage restorative dentistry (www.theONWARDprogram.com).
Dr. Feinberg is a nationally recognized lecturer and a noted author of scientific and educational articles for dental publications. He is the author of two books: The Double-Tilt Precision Attachment Case for Natural Teeth and Implants, and Open Wide: Essays on Challenges in Dentistry to Achieve Excellence.
In addition to educational activities, Dr. Feinberg has served on 4 Councils of the American Dental Association and currently sits on the Arizona Dental Association’s Council on Annual Sessions and serves as Secretary-Treasurer of the Central Arizona Dental Society. Dr. Feinberg also serves the Dental AI Association as Chairman of Prosthodontics. He is a past president of the Ninth District Dental Association, and a recipient of the Ninth’s D. Austin Sniffen Medal of Honor.

Sarah Friend
SECRETARY/TREASURER
Dr. Sarah Friend is a general dentist and forensic odontologist who practices in her hometown of Galax, Virginia, which is nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Dr. Friend received a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Virginia in Germanic Languages and Literature and earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery from Virginia Commonwealth University School of Dentistry. Having had a long-term interest in forensic odontology, she completed the Lincoln Memorial University College of Dental Medicine’s Fellowship in Forensic Dentistry in 2023. Dr. Friend has been a member of the American Dental Association and the Academy of General Dentistry (AGD) since the beginning of her dental career. She earned fellowship in the AGD in 2020. As a member of the Virginia Dental Association and the Southwest Virginia Dental Association, Dr. Friend has volunteered her time to these organizations by holding a variety of leadership and editorial appointments. She currently is the editor of the Virginia Dental Journal and serves as a board member for the Virginia Dental Association. She is also a member of the American Society of Forensic Odontology and the American Academy of Forensic Sciences. Dr. Friend looks forward to becoming a fellow in the American College of Dentists and International College of Dentists later this year.

Dr. Daniel Orr II
EDITOR-IN-CHIEF
Daniel L. Orr II, BS, DDS, MS (anesthesiology), PhD, JD, MD, is an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon (OMS), Dentist Anesthesiologist (DA), and attorney practicing in Las Vegas, Nevada. He is the father of 9 children. Dr. Orr is a Diplomate of the American Board of OMS, the American Board of Legal Medicine, American Dental Board of Anesthesiology, the National Dental Board of Anesthesiology, and an Anesthesiology Accreditation Visitor for CODA. He is admitted to the CA Bar and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals and is a Past President of the American College of Legal Medicine. Dr. Orr is the Editor of the Nevada Dental Association Journal, a Past President of the American Association of Dental Editors and Journalists, is a member of several editorial boards and peer reviews articles for JOMS, JADA, OOO, JDE, JACD, JLM, and others. Dr. Orr was named 1968 Eagle Scout of the Year by the Los Angeles Area Council and in 1993 was awarded the Silver Beaver by the Boulder Dam Area Council.

Denise Maihofer, CDE
EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Denise started her career as a multi-media specialist and coordinator for General Motors.
She launched her own design and production company in 1990 and began her involvement with dental publications in 1992. Denise has been a member of AADEJ for 13 years and was AADEJ secretary/treasurer for 3 years. Although her business concentrates on dental publications, she covers a wide range of creative services from branding to promotional and display projects. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan with a major in Advertising.
